Humanitarian Retreat Non-Profit “109 World” Celebrates Its Third Birthday | By Karstee Davis

109 World marked its third birthday with a Birthday Party on Friday night, October 12th at Bellwether Coffee + Whisky Bar in Denver. The party included snacks courtesy of Eating Primal, a silent auction, and free tattoos from Stay Local Tattoo and Body Piercing.

109 World is a non-profit organization that runs humanitarian retreats all around the world, each trip being focused on one of eight areas: women empowerment, water, children, education, animals, food security, the environment and wellbeing. The organization was co-founded by the talented trio: Rachel Brathen, Olivia Rothschild and Leticia Gonzalez-Reyes. Leticia has recently put down roots in Boulder, CO, so now part of the organization is run from there, hence the birthday party in Colorado for the first time.

On being in Boulder, Leticia said, “now that we are based in Boulder, Colorado, to have the opportunity to build a community here is so exciting and we can’t wait for the months to come! It’s been both humbling and an absolute pleasure to host our first Birthday Party celebrating 109 World here and we look forward to growing our community and hosting some pretty special 109 experiences here.”

So definitely be on the lookout for more to come! The party was a great opportunity to meet like-minded people who all have a love for yoga and doing good in the world.

Many of the people at the birthday celebration were people who have participated in 109 World events, like new Colorado resident Dawn Hodapp, who is about to go on her third 109 World trip and received her 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certification at Island Yoga (a yoga studio owned and operated by Rachel Brathen, co-founder of 109 World)! There were also locals Sarah Key and Meghan Logue, friends who would like to go on a 109 World trip someday. Sarah was fortunate enough to recently take a yoga class at Island Yoga with her husband for their wedding anniversary.

109 World has a trip focused on animals coming this December in Mexico, and then in March of 2019 they will be heading to Guatemala to highlight children and education.
