Try  It On : Stio Amalia Down Jacket  | By Kim Fuller

Layering up in the winter doesnt have to mean sacrificing style. Stio has introduced the Amalia Down Jacket to their outerwear collection this season and it combines urban flare with some mountain-inspired elements.

Technical details include an 800-fill RDS-certified HyperDRY™ down that creates warmth without adding weight. The large baffles make for that familiar puffy jacket look, yet the cropped silhouette gives the Amalia Down Jacket a more stylish edge, paired with an oversized collar and a slightly offset front closure for a more unique look.

This jacket has a relaxedfit, which is kind of refreshing after being so used to zipping loads of layers into fitted down jackets. On their website, Stio recommends ordering a size down for a fit thats slightly closer, and I agree a size down seems to be just right for me.

Even with 800-fill down, the cropped style does let in a little draft on cold days, so prepare with a warmer layer underneath. I recently wore this jacket over a sweater to dinner in Vail Village. It was a cold night but the sweater-plus-jacket combination kept me toasty, although I do wish I had worn a hat as the Amalia doesn’t have a hood and my head got quite cold. The lined pockets did keep my hands super toasty.

The Amalia Down Jacket is perfect for a Colorado date night, that’s for sure, but it’s not the only down jacket you should own, as it’s not the warmest jacket and it’s definitely not meant for technical outdoor pursuits. That’s all well and good, however, since everyone in Colorado already seems to own their down puffy staple, this can be that closet addition that is meant for more fun than function.
