Women’s Wellness and Adventure Retreats | By Wendy Wilkinson

Last Updated: February 17, 2021By

As one of the most active and outdoorsy states in the nation, Colorado promotes personal wellness through outdoor adventures, relaxation retreats, the healing arts and more. The state is now expanding with “women-only” retreats and escapes to connect with like-minded outdoor enthusiasts for a weekend of relaxation to re-center ourselves, or enjoy a day of invigorating exercise.

These three wellness retreats, yoga weekends and travel destinations for women take place between January and June. Let’s start with the SunMountain Center in Manitou Springs. Nestled near the base of Pikes Peak and adjacent to the majestic Garden of the Gods Park, the SunMountain Center is a creative sanctuary for wellness and serenity. Steeped in history and local lore, the center’s two historic properties, Onaledge and Rockledge, offer unique lodging accommodations for wellness retreats.

Finding Balance in Simplicity: A Wellness Retreat for Moms with Rebecca Peterson and Logan Kinny

January 24-26, 2020

SunMountain Center, Manitou Springs

This is a retreat to give busy moms a way to unwind, connect with other moms, and make their lives feel less chaotic by exploring ways to find balance in simplicity. Peterson and Kinny will work with attendees developing ways to create more space within to embrace the people you love, and open your heart and soul through workshops, yoga, breathwork, mediation, mineral springs soaking and journaling.

Owner of Embracing the Mother Retreats and Sacred Breaths Retreats and Birth Classes, Peterson creates retreats that honor mothers in the childbearing years and takes advantage of the beauty of Colorado, where she grew up. She is extremely excited about spending four days in Manitou Springs.

“I like to provide moms with a short getaway for them to be able to focus on themselves and this particular retreat focuses on how to find more balance in life, by looking at your days and trying to simplify or bring in more white space, so to speak, to re-nourish in a short period of time.” shares Peterson. “The overwhelm may be very different for a mom and new baby than it is raising a school-aged child. It’s important to slow down a bit so that moms can have more enjoyment with them, by balancing both their own time, and perhaps a partner’s need, with their children’s needs.”

Women’s Winter Ski, Snowshoe and Yoga Wonderfest

January 25, 2020

Snow Mountain Ranch, Colorado

Join the team of instructors from Women’s Quest — adventure retreats created by women for women — and Snow Mountain Ranch for an amazing day of skiing and more. Give yourself the gift of fitness and fun this winter at the ranch’s Nordic Center in Granby, CO. This is a chance to truly “love winter” by participating in beginning instruction in either classic or skate skiing (or improve your technique if you are already a proficient skier), snowshoeing, yoga for skiers, a ski wax clinic, nutrition and inspirational lecture, shopping, meeting new friends and more. Beginners to advanced skiers welcome.

USA Yoga Weekend for Women

April 17-19, 2020

Joyful Journey, Moffat, CO

One of the most popular yoga retreats in the country is the USA Yoga Weekend for Women held at the Joyful Journey Hot Springs and Spa in Moffat, CO. In mid-April 22 women will immerse themselves in a three-day, hot springs weekend retreat in Colorado nature. Highlights include: yoga for healing, meditation and movement, writing and creativity, soaking in healing waters, time in nature and group connection through women’s workshops. An added bonus is the daily hike in the majestic Sangre de Cristo mountains, where attendees can take a minute — or an hour — to breathe deeply and find their healing space in nature.

So if you want to feel a bit more sisterhood, explore your creativity through workshops and journaling, find more balance in your life as a mom, or experience the full spectrum from meditation and quiet relaxation, to a high-energy ski adventure, plan on experiencing a woman-centric retreat in 2020.
